Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Long e 

Introduction

Today, you will identify words with long e spelling patterns.

The long e sound can be spelling in many different ways: e_e; ea; ee; ey; y; ie; and the letter e, usually when it comes at the end of a syllable.

Examples: these, reach, greed, honey, muddy, piece, zebra

 

In Your Notebook: Please draw a seven column chart. Write the long e spelling patterns in the columns on the chart.

Read each word. Sort the word based on its spelling pattern. After completing the sort, please copy this sort into your phonics/word study journal.
