Phonics: Module 1, Lesson 1 (Day 1): Identifying Prefixes

Phonics: Lesson 1 - Identifying Prefixes

Introduction

Today, you will identify words with prefixes (un-, re-).

A prefix is a group of letters added to the beginning of a base word to change the meaning and create a new word.

For Example: un + happy = unhappy

A base word is a word that can stand on its own and has meaning.

In Your Notebook: Please write down the definition for prefix and base word.

Read each word. Sort the word based on its prefix. After completing the sort, please copy this sort into your phonics/word study journal.
