Lesson 4 Pollution and Conservation: Water Pollution, Part 2

Water Pollution, Part 2

Hello again!

Let’s take another day to learn about water pollution. So often, we think that water pollution occurs right at the source. Trash or chemicals get into a body of water, and that body of water is all that gets contaminated. What we tend to forget is that water moves, which means that whatever pollution is in it gets carried away to other larger bodies of water.

Watch the video linked below that shows a demonstration about how contaminants are carried downstream. Then get out your science journal for a response.

Assignment

Science journal:

Answer the following questions from the video:

  1. What is something that you didn’t know about water pollution that you learned from watching the video?
  2. What do you think citizens can do to help keep bodies of water from being polluted?

Answer the following questions in your science journal about your Tiny Garbage Patch:

  1. Are there any changes you can see inside the jar? If so, what are they?
  2. Hold the jar with both hands. Does it feel like it’s any warmer than you expected it to be?
