Lesson 24 Habitats: Plant Adaptations

Hello again!

Let’s do a quick look at plant adaptations before we have our final assessment. You are going to need your science journal for this activity so you can do an entry there. You will need the picture you see below for your entry. So take a look at it! Does it look like a plant you have seen before? Or does it look brand new to your eyes?

Use your science journal to write a response to the following prompt:

You are on a hike with your family, and you spot this plant on the trail. You accidentally rub up against it with your arm. You notice that it makes your arm feel like it’s burning and itchy. Your parents realize the plant is a stinging nettle.

  • Why might the stinging nettle plant make you feel burning and itching on your skin?
  • Would this be considered an adaptation for the plant? Why or why not?
