Hello 3rd grade scientists!  You learned how to use the power of conduction to create your very own solar oven.  Today, let’s take a look at insulators. 

First, here are some key facts about thermal insulators:

 

Insulators are opposite of conductors.  They resist heat transferring, or passing through.  

 

Thermal insulators create a barrier between hot and cold materials. This reduces heat transfer from one object to another.  This keeps cold objects cold and hot objects hot.

 

 

Thermal insulators, such as a jacket, are good materials for keeping people warm.
