Introduction

Today, you will design your very own solar oven.  You will also begin gathering materials that you will need to make your solar oven once you have finished your design.

Assignment

For today's task, follow the steps below: 

• Grab your science journal. 
• Draw a design for your solar oven.
• Label each part of your design in your science journal. Here are some guiding questions to help you:
  • How will your design ATTRACT the heat needed to cook your treat?
  • How will your design TRAP the heat needed to cook your treat?
• Begin gathering materials that you will need to build your solar oven.
  • Think about your materials:  Why did the students in the video use aluminum foil on their top flap?  Why did they use black paper instead of another color?  What is the purpose of the plastic wrap?
• Some ideas for materials include:
  • cardboard
  • tape, scissors, pencil
  • aluminum foil
  • paper plate
  • plastic wrap
  • construction paper
