Lesson 11: Conductors
Conductors
Introduction
Let’s get started, heat hunters! Today you will learn about heat transfer and conductors.
Some items transfer heat energy easier than others. These materials are called conductors. Materials, such as metal, are good conductors. Other materials, such as wood, glass, plastic, and air, are not. These materials are called insulators.
Visual
Take a look at these images. Think about the guiding questions below as you make observations in your journal.
|
Which one of these would make a better conductor of heat?
How are you able to come to that conclusion?
What happens to the heat as it’s transferred through each of the items?
What other materials could be conductors of heat?
How could you test your hypothesis? Could you use heat energy from the sun to test your theory?
Interactive
For today’s task, complete the interactive below. Think about what you know about heat transfer.
