Make a Claim

Introduction

Hello scientists!  Using the scientific method, you have observed heat energy, asked questions, made predictions, and gathered data.  Now it is time to analyze your findings and report your conclusions.

Scientists use the scientific method cycle to make claims.  Today, you will use what you have learned to make a claim about heat energy.

For today’s task you will need your Hot or Not slide deck or journal entry.

  • Look back at your predictions. How accurate were your predictions?  How did your thinking change?
  • Now look at your data findings.  Did you notice any patterns?  How did surface materials impact temperature?  What about color?
  • What if you tried this experiment on a cloudy day?  Would your data be different?  Why or why not?

Think about your analysis of the Hot or Not activity.  Use your findings to make a claim about how the Sun warms the Earth’s surface.
