Educational and Professional Requirements Decoded

As you consider health-related careers, you may decide on one career and then pursue additional training in another career. Those individuals are referred to as multi-competent workers and are extremely valuable in the workplace.  

Presentation as a professional communicates your personal commitment to your chosen profession and the quality of care delivered to the patient population.      

 Professional Presentation
Dress code. Clothing clean and neat. Undergarments should be skin tone to maintain uniformity of appearance. Jewelry should be kept to a minimum. Avoid dangling jewelry. Jewelry can pos a risk of injury to the patient and the employee. Body piercings do not support a professional attire. Shoes should be clean with a skid-resistant bottom. Tattoos should be covered while in the workplace. Hygiene. Daily personal hygiene including bathing and oral care. Males are required to keep beard or mustache neatly trimmed. Avoid strong colognes and deodorants. Keep nails short and clean. Use only light-colored nail polish. Artificial nails are prohibited in the patient care environment. Make up should be conservative.

An individual's personal characteristics shape their professional behavior. Personal characteristics that support quality care and teamwork include:

Exhibiting these characteristics builds professional trust and respect. Poor behavior on the job may result in job loss while commitment to professionalism leads to job security and financial rewards.
