Computers have changed the way people work, live, and play. They have changed the way we communicate, collaborate, and gain knowledge. Current innovations such as mobile devices, instant messaging, videoconferencing, email, and text messaging make it easy for people to communicate anywhere in the world. Computer innovations have beneficial and harmful effects on society. The President is making efforts to bridge the digital divide by passing the National Broadband Plan, a Federal Communications Commission plan to improve Internet access in the United States by 2020. Computing affects every area of our society. Computing innovations in the healthcare and science field are helping people with disabilities and other health problems.
