ISP - What is the SAT? Lesson
What is the SAT, and Why do I need to take it?
The SAT helps to determine where most students attend college. The goal is to be as prepared for the SAT as possible so that you can attend the college of your choice. This course is not only designed to help first-time test-takers, but it will also help those students who have already taken the test and wish to improve their scores. It is a good idea to take the SAT after the completion of this course because the material will be fresh in your mind.
The SAT is a standardized test that allows students to demonstrate what they have learned and how well they apply that knowledge. Most colleges and universities use the SAT to help make admission decisions. Students are tested on reading, writing, and math skills that are commonly taught in the high school classroom. It is common for students to take the SAT in the spring of their junior year of high school as well as in the fall of their senior year.
The SAT is not the only thing that colleges consider when making admission decisions. They will also look at a student's grades, courses taken, and extra-curricular activities. These areas will help predict how well a student will perform in college. In summary, college-bound students not only want to take the SAT, but they want to get the highest score possible.
