Explore Landscape Photographers
A landscape, in art, can be more than just a record of how a particular piece of land looked at a specific time. Though it might be purely documentary in nature, often there is more beneath the surface. The sublime, awe, vastness, wildness, evidence of the influence of man, the passage of time, change, impermanence, God, beauty, destruction – the possibilities of what can be evoked and conveyed through a work of landscape art are endless.
Sometimes, when looking backward through history and art, it can be difficult to understand “what the big deal is” about a particular artwork or artist. So it’s important to consider the context. Often the idea, technology, or execution were revolutionary for the time. Something that’s never been done before creates change and leaves a mark. The following presentation will walk you through some of the major pioneers in landscape photography and what their particular contributions were.
Now that we have a pretty thorough understanding of where landscape photography came from, let’s spend a little more time looking at where it is and where it might be going. This video focuses on seven well known landscape photographers and discusses their particular styles. Looking at the work of other artists can inspire us. We learn from their unique perspectives and can incorporate bits of what we learn into our own work. Be sure your volume is turned on!
