Using Light

Introduction

As a photographer, one of your greatest tools for creating a particular mood is lighting. Please view the following video that discusses creating mood within your photography through color, light, and shadow.

Lighting encompasses the type of light (sunlight, fluorescent light, LED light, etc), the quality of the light (direct, diffused, indirect), the intensity of the light (high key, low key), and also has an effect on how colors are seen in the photograph. Sunlight can be warm or cool depending on the time of day, fluorescent light is often greenish, and LED lighting is cool (though some are adjustable). So it’s easy to see how color and lighting are intertwined.
