Classical Conditioning Continued
Psychologist John B. Watson officially brought classical conditioning to psychology with his Little Albert Study. In this experiment, he illustrated that the principles of classical conditioning could be used to condition humans. Watson agreed with Pavlov that behavior is a result of conditioning and learning due to experience and environmental influences. Watson published an article titled, "Psychology as the Behaviorist Views It," which illustrated his ideas and challenged the ideas of the early founders of psychology. Thus, behaviorism was born. Behaviorism would become the dominant theory in psychology research for the next 50 years.
As an AP Psychology student, you should be able to identify the "learning" concepts associated with Classical Conditioning. In both the multiple choice and Free Response section of the AP exam, you may be asked to demonstrate this knowledge.
