This module provides students with an overview of what to expect in both the course and the AP exam. It is important for to understand the requirements of AP Psychology to do well on the national exam.
AP Psychology is a college-level course, providing an in-depth study of human behavior, emotions and thought processes. It is designed to introduce you to the principles, concepts, theories, and methodologies that constitute the core study of psychology. The course conforms to College Board topics for the Advanced Placement Introductory Psychology Examination as well as the Georgia Performance Standards for Psychology.
Many students choose to take AP Psychology as their first AP class. This is great because as a student you are acknowledging the need to challenge yourself and take steps in preparing for college. It is also great because psychology is a chosen subject, which means students enrolled in this course are highly interested in the subject. You will find throughout the course of the semester that psychology is the most applicable subject that will help you with your other studies and can be applied to many areas of your life.
The intention of this first unit of instruction is to prepare you for what this course will entail. This unit focuses on the AP national exam that is given in May each year. The content that is covered in an introduction to psychology course is dictated by the College Board, and the exam is constructed by the College Board. Achieving a 3 or higher on the exam typically results in attaining college credit for entry level psychology courses. You must check with your face-to-face school on their requirements pertaining to taking the exam. In addition, you need to check with the college you plan to apply to to see if they accept College Board credit for AP Psychology and which scores, they will accept equate to course credit. With all this in mind, let's get started.
