DVM: Lesson - Creating a GDD Storyboard
Creating a GDD Storyboard
In this module, we have covered GDD storyboarding, types of storyboards, and strategies to optimize the UX. As stated before, there are various ways and preferences when creating a storyboard. The steps below are general steps for creating a storyboard for a game design document that you can follow.
How to Create a Visual Storyboard
- Determine the key moments of the game: Begin by identifying the most important moments in the game's story, gameplay, and level design. These could be moments of high tension, key character interactions, or important puzzles or challenges.
- Break the game into levels: If the game is divided into levels, create a storyboard for each level This will help you to plan out the progression of the game and ensure that each level is unique and engaging.
- Sketch out the storyboard: Use a sketchbook or storyboard template to create rough sketches of the key moments in the These sketches don't need to be detailed or polished, but they should give a sense of the flow and pacing of the game.
- Add notes and descriptions: Alongside or below the sketches, add notes or descriptions that explain what is happening in each This could include descriptions of the environment, character movements, dialogue, or other important details.
- Get feedback and make revisions: Show your storyboard to others and get feedback on it. Use this feedback to make revisions and improve the design of the game. You may need to make changes to the story, level design, or gameplay mechanics based on this feedback.
- Finalize the storyboard: Once you've made revisions, create a final version of the This should include detailed sketches, descriptions, and any additional notes or ideas as a result of the feedback process.
By following these steps, you can create a clear and concise storyboard for your game design document. This process will help you to plan out the game's design and ensure that it is engaging, fun, and easy to play.
