CAW: Lesson - An Introduction to HTML
An Introduction to HTML
Understanding how to program and code information or create something that appears on a computer screen has been the gateway for many into a creative universe with few limitations…the universe of computer science. Knowing how to communicate to accomplish one’s goals and visualize one’s desires within this universe is very important. Using the correct terminology in the correct way will help to ensure that the web development process is both effective and efficient.
Welcome to the world of Website Development…this will be fun!
What's the Purpose of Web Development?
Let’s imagine for a moment that you are an entrepreneur and you have created a very successful company based on your favorite hobby or something you really enjoy doing. Your goods and/or services are designed for a special target market or those who enjoy what you (your company) create or provide. Your goods and/or services are the solution to a specific problem. However, your target market…which is global, is unaware that you have so many possible solutions available just for them. So how could you connect those who are in need with those who provide the desired goods and services?
Well, you could put an ad in the newspaper…but wait, when is the last time you read a newspaper? What else could you do? You could put up posters around town or visit different locations, but that would limit you to just those people passing those postings or at the locations you visit. These hyperlocal solutions used to be the best way to get information out, but that was in a world before the internet!
Now that the internet is an option, creating a website/web page provides an unprecedented opportunity to advertise your company’s goods and/or services 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
HTML and Web Design
So, how do we create a website/web page? Great question! We begin by determining the programming language you would prefer to use. For this module, we will utilize HTML (HyperText Markup Language). HTML is used to create the content of a web page. When utilizing HTML in website/web page development there are common terms and abbreviations that are used to create what is seen by the customer, client, or end user.
