The Web Development Process
What is web development?
Simply stated, web development includes the planning, creation, and maintenance of websites.
Why is Web Development Important?
The reasons may vary depending on who is answering the question. Examine the chart below for possible reasons as to why web development is important.

Web Development Process
Regardless of the website owner, the products and goods offered, or the awareness a person may want to magnify, there is a basic process that can be followed to ensure an effective website.
Step 1: Information Gathering
- identify the objective(s) of the website
- define the goal(s) of the website
- analyze the requirements (timeline and resources)
- make a project schedule
Step 2: Planning
- create a sitemap (remember a sitemap is a visual representation that shows how web pages are organized within the website)
- decide what technologies will be used in the website
Step 3: Design (website prototype/draft)
- create the layout of a home page and main pages
- include images, logos, colors, fonts
Step 4: Content Creation:
- add content (words relative to the website’s purpose)
Step 5: Coding
- create the HTML and CSS
- code programming functionalities
Step 6: Testing & Launch
- test and debug
- ensure hyperlinks are working
- spellcheck
- Consider major design elements
- ease of use
- responsiveness
- adaptability to mobile, tablet, and desktop, etc.
Step 7: Maintenance
- maintain relevant content
- maintain engaging technologies
