Introduction

Through project-based learning, students will learn how to develop a plan to create, design, and build a website. Students will demonstrate their understanding of website development planning by creating an actual plan for the website they will develop.

Module Lessons Preview

In this module, we will study the following topics:

Web Lab Overview Intro: Students will be introduced to some of the basics and fundamentals of the internet and web lab.

Vocabulary Overview: In this lesson, we will review terminology relevant to website development.

Website Evaluation Overview Learning Objective: Students are provided with an opportunity to reinforce their understanding of the basics and fundamentals of effective and efficient web design.

Ethics: In this lesson, we will examine the necessity of websites.

Web Development Process: This lesson provides a comprehensive approach to common ways to build a website.

Web Plan Outline: Students demonstrate their understanding of web design through the application of their creation of a web plan.

Web Development Overview: Students cover some of the basics and fundamentals of web design.

Key Terms

  • Website: A collection of interlinked web pages on the World Wide Web.
  • Webpage: A single hypertext document (transmitted as HTML) that is part of a website on the World Wide Web; web pages are often hyperlinked to others and contain text, images, and/or videos.
  • HTTP: Hypertext Transfer Protocol - protocol used to transfer data over the web.
  • HTML: HyperText Markup Language - used to create the content of a web page.
  • Java Script: A programming language used in web development that dictates web behavior.
  • CSS: The language for describing the presentation of Web pages, including colors, layout, and fonts.
  • Tags: The special set of characters that tells the machine where the start and end of HTML elements are and what type they are.
  • Heading: A title or summary for a document or section of a document.
  • Domain Name System (DNS): An association of website/web page names with corresponding IP addresses.
  • IP: Internet Protocol - a computer’s address.
  • IP Address: A sequence of usually alphanumeric characters that identifies a collection of information on the internet.
  • Server: Stores, processes, and delivers web pages to a user's computer upon request from a web browser.
  • Site Map: A visual representation that shows how web pages are organized within the website.
  • Web Browser: A software application that is used to access the world wide web.
  • URL: Uniform Resource Locator - address of a resource on the internet.
