Globalization 1900-Present Module Overview
Introduction
As we enter into the 1900s and later, a new movement is starting that will affect the world. Globalization is the process of a business or organization developing international influence or starting to operate on an international scale. Globalization brought new modes of communication transportation, energy technologies, new medicines, innovations and treatments as well as the Green Revolution and commercial agriculture to the world. However, with the good there is also the bad as diseases spread affecting the global populations and deforestation and greenhouse gases and pollutants contribute to climate change. These changes caused by globalization will affect the global economy as well as the influence of the free market economy spread. Social categories, roles and practices will be challenged and globalization will also impact and change cultures around the world as well. While many will embrace globalization there will still be those that resist seeing it as damaging to their local ways and customs. New international organizations will also form with the common goal of maintaining world peace and facilitating international cooperation. Globalization will lead to rapid advances in science and technology and the understanding of the universe and natural world will help lead to advances in communication, transportation, industry, agriculture, and medicine.
