Solve Quadratics Using the Quadratic Formula

x equals negative b plus or minus square root b squared minus four a c all over 2a So we have learned two methods of solving quadratics: Factor to Solve and Solve by Taking Square Roots. Next, we are going to look at the quadratic formula.

Sometimes, quadratic functions written in standard form ax2 + bx + c = 0 are prime, so the next option is to use the quadratic formula.

Solve Quadratics using the Quadratic Formula Practice

Try these problems to see if you've got it. Give answers for #1-2 in exact form and #3 in approximate form:

  1. 2x2 = 7 - x
  2. x2 = 20 - 4x
  3. x2 - 6x + 4 = 0
