Recognizing Emergencies

There are some common indicators that raise your awareness that an emergency exists. You have likely experienced at least one of these indicators before. However, some may not be as obvious and it is important that you learn what to look for to signify that further action should be taken.

Once an emergency situation has been identified, the second step is to decide to act. While this may seem an obvious course of action, many people experience a mix of emotions that can leave them hesitant or unwilling to act. Below is a table identifying some common reasons that prevent people from responding and ways to overcome these barriers.
