American Music of the 2000's and Beyond Module Overview
Introduction
In this module students will learn about the influences in the United States on the music of the 2000's. Students will also learn about the major performers of this era and get to hear the most popular music in the United States of this time.

Key Terms
- Indie Rock - The term is derived from the term "independent," and describes the small and relatively low-budget labels on which this genre of alternative rock is released and the do-it-yourself attitude of the bands and artists involved.
- Emo - is a style of rock music characterized by melodic musicianship and expressive, often confessional lyrics. It originated in the mid-1980s hardcore punk movement of Washington, D.C., where it was known as "emotional hardcore".
- Crunk - is a music style that originated in Memphis, Tennessee and gained mainstream success around 2003-04.Performers of crunk music are sometimes referred to as "crunksters". An archetypal crunk track most frequently uses a drum machine rhythm, heavy bassline, and shouting vocals, often in call and response manner.
- Snap - is a dance-centric subgenre of hip hop music, that originated in the Bankhead, and West Atlanta areas of the south.
- Auto-Tune - is an audio processor which measures and alters pitch in vocal and instrumental music recording and performances. It was originally intended to disguise or correct off-key inaccuracies, allowing vocal tracks to be perfectly tuned despite originally being slightly off-key.
