Introduction
In this module students will learn about the influences in the United States on the music of the 1960 and 1970 eras. Students will also learn about the major performers of this era and get to hear the most popular music in the United States at that time.

- Disco - Popular dance music of the late 1970s, characterized by strong repetitive bass rhythms.
- Surf Rock – Popular music of the sixties characterized by being nearly entirely instrumental and by heavy use of reverb on the guitars.
- Folk Rock - Popular music combining elements of rock 'n' roll and folk music.
- Psychedelic Rock - A style of rock music of the late 1960s having a prominent repetitive beat and lyrics that suggest psychedelic experiences.
- Garage Rock - A form of amateurish rock music so called because of the perception that it was rehearsed in a suburban family garage.
- Blues Rock - A style of music that combines blues and rock 'n' roll.
- Progressive Rock - Sometimes used interchangeably with art rock, was an attempt to move beyond established musical formulas by experimenting with different instruments, song types, and forms.

- Hard Rock - A style of rock 'n' roll characterized by a harsh, amplified sound and loud, distorted electric guitars.
- Soft Rock - A form of rock 'n' roll that is restrained in style and is characterized by the predominance of melody.
- Country Rock - A form of popular music combining features of country music, blues and rock 'n' roll.
- Soul Music - A style of popular music developed by African Americans, combining elements of gospel music and rhythm and blues
