(JZM) Jazz Elements Lesson
Jazz Elements Lesson
Jazz is usually played by a small combo of anywhere from three to eight players or it could be performed by a big band of ten to fifteen players. The main rhythm instruments are piano, double bass, percussion and sometimes guitar.
The main solo instruments are the trumpet, saxophone, clarinet, piano, vibraphone and trombone. Jazz musicians tend to strive for their own individual sound and tone color.
The main ingredient in jazz music is improvisation, in which musicians create and perform music "on the spot." The creativity of good improvisers is amazing. Not all jazz is improvised, but there is enough included in a composition to give it freshness and allow performers their creativity and originality.
Syncopation and rhythmic swing are the two most distinctive features of jazz. Jazz music uses a lot of five or six-note chords to give it a rich and lush sound.
