I want you to eat your apples! How much does the government control? Some say everything! The government plays a big role in the nutrition industry in America. But the one way they contribute to America's nutrition is by regulating and controlling many of the nations' nutritional programs. For many people, the food they eat goes beyond a special diet or restriction. From school food programs, to local food banks, and SNAP (food stamps), many people are able to eat due to the government funded programs. The government also helps to regulate the safety and quality of products sold in America. It enforces safety regulations on imported and exported food products. Laws are set to help ensure that American farmers are able to get fair prices for crops and extra payments when their production is low. Impoverished Americans are supplied with food and given vouchers to purchase healthy items for their families. The government regulates the school lunch programs to ensure a well balanced and healthy lunch and also gives lunches to those that can not afford school lunch; breakfast is provided as well. Media, education, and business are governed by laws to provide Americans with reliable health information and to prevent unhealthy practices by these industries.
