Special Diet Considerations Module Overview

Introduction

Diet Plan ImageIn today's society, different groups of people have different nutritional requirements. There are special diet considerations for pregnant women, which include prenatal vitamins high in folic acid, calcium, and omega fatty acids. She also should restrict her consumption of undercooked meat, seafood, and certain soft cheeses. 300 calories is the amount of additional calories that a pregnant mom may need beyond her normal calorie intake to supply nutrients for her baby. This is hard to believe for many individuals who might think that "eating for two" sounds appealing.

Beyond allergies and restrictions and preparing the food safely, certain individuals choose certain eating patterns. For example, athletes require adequate hydration before, after, and during exercise as well as adequate carbohydrate and protein intake to fuel exercise.

Vegetarians are encouraged to add additional sources of protein to their diets as well as eat healthy sources of plants and vegetables. Lacto, Ovo, and Pesce Vegetarians do include certain types of animal products in their diets. Lastly, some people acquire eating disorders from unhealthy body images, control issues, and outside influences. These can be very dangerous and can mean the difference between life or death. So, for many people, these special diet considerations can be very important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
