Programs Used to Design Games Module Overview

computer screenA good user interface design allows the user to easily and intuitively complete tasks. In this module the student will learn the basic design principles for a user interface, the elements of a user interface and compare and contrast software for usability and preference. The student will also examine different game engines and use one to design a game.

Key Terms

  1. Instance - An instance is a copy of the object.
  2. Object - Objects are entities in the game that do things. They have a state and a behavior.
  3. Sprite - A sprite is defined as a two-dimensional image or animated image that plays a specific role, often independently manipulated, within a larger image environment.
  4. Usability - How effectively, efficiently and satisfactorily a user can interact with a user interface.
  5. User-Centered Design (UCD) - An approach to designing the user interface of a product or service in which the end user is placed in the center of the process.
  6. User Interface - The User Interface (UI) is the space where interactions between humans and machines occur.
  7. User Testing - Usability testing includes a range of test and evaluation methods to identify issues that keep users from meeting the usability goals of the software.
