Careers in Food and Nutrition
Careers in food and nutrition industries are wide-ranging and can entail many different job responsibilities and work environments. Farmers, scientists, restaurant workers, health-care nutritionists and weight-loss consultants all may have formal food and nutrition training and educations. Having a solid foundation in science and chemistry as well as nutrition is essential for food and nutrition careers.

Government Agencies
Example: USDA - a cabinet-level agency that oversees the American farming industry. USDA duties range from helping farmers with price support subsidies, to inspecting food to ensure the safety of the American public
Lobbyists
a form of advocacy with the intention of influencing decisions made by the government by individuals or more usually by lobby groups; it includes all attempts to influence legislators and officials
Healthcare Reform
governmental policy that affects health care delivery in a given place. Health care reform typically attempts to improve the quality of healthcare

Food Service Vendors
Example: Sysco - is the global leader in selling, marketing and distributing food products to restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other customers who prepare meals away from home
Information Technology
Example: Computrition – a nutrition food label add on module that allows individuals to create nutritional labels showing their nutrient content
Nutritionals
Example: Mead Johnson – a company that manufactures infant formula and flavored milk for toddlers, also vitamins and supplements for pregnant or breastfeeding women, babies and toddlers
Radio, TV, newspapers and magazines are a major source of nutrition education for the public. Cooperative extension agents often write for the local media and commodity groups hire public relation firms.

Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher
Family and consumer sciences teachers (also called home economics teachers) teach subjects such as nutrition, budgeting, cooking, family living, sewing, child care, fashion design and many others.
Culinary Arts Teacher
A culinary arts teacher trains students to become chefs and food service professionals.
Health and Wellness Coordinator
A fitness and wellness coordinator is someone who works for a gym or health facility and coordinates or plans all of their fitness and wellness activities - such as exercise classes, health seminars, and special events.

Dietitians work in the NHS, private practice, industry, education, research, sport, media, public relations, publishing, government and Non-Government Organizations. Dietitians advise and influence food and health policy across the spectrum from government, to local communities and individuals.
Cooperative Extension
Food and Nutrition Program Coordinators teach limited-resource families and youth how to make healthier food choices and become better managers of available food resources for optimal health and growth. The programs focus on basic nutrition, physical activity, safe food handling, and thrifty food shopping.
WIC Nutritionists
WIC, provides nutrition and health care information and services to low-income women and children. WIC nutritionists work in clinics, at departments of social services and public health agencies.

It is revised every two years.
