Social Factors
Food ads make you aware of new foods and may provide useful information about nutrition. What you read in magazines or what you see on TV will have an impact on your food choices. Both electronic and print media has the power to change people's preferences about food. They can also influence what you eat, how you eat, and even how much you eat. Advertising can leave a subconscious effect on food choices, and that is the reason why there is always an increase in consumption of snack foods due to TV commercials about them. Electronic and print media have the power to change people's preferences about food. Food items claiming certain benefits, even when questionable, will affect people's decisions.
Food packaging also plays a major role in why we buy and eat the foods we do. Placing products in prominent locations or spots where consumers will see them at the end of their shopping journey can increase their sales. Most people do not recognize that the product placement influences their purchases or eating behavior.
