Preparing for the AP ExamWhile the goal of this course is to prepare you to take the AP U.S. History Exam, your primary goal is to learn the content of the course in order to have a deeper understanding of the United States’ past and how it is relevant to you in contemporary society. Your assignments will equip you with the skills needed to do well on the AP Exam and to think and write at a college level.

This unit will prepare you to succeed in the course.

In this module you will learn what is included in the AP U.S. History course:

  • the format and scope of the AP U.S. History Exam you’ll take in the spring
  • how it differs from a regular U.S. History course
  • the subject matter you’ll be expected to know
  • the writing and analytical skills you’ll be required to master: 
    • how to write a DBQ (Documents-Based Question), FRQ (Free Response Question), and an LEQ (Long Essay Question)
