Managing and Applying Audio Files Lesson

Converting Audio Files

So far you have learned that there are several different audio files to record and save your audio in. Depending where the audio file is being used will determine which audio file to store it in. If you have recorded your audio in a file that is not usable by the application you are applying it to, you can convert it into the correct output audio format using an audio converter. This is the best option to use to convert from any form of audio to other formats like .wav, .acc, .mp3, .flac, .aiff, and .wma. Unless you are using a special audio converter software, there are several online audio converters that you can use that are easily accessible. For audio recordings, MP3 is the most widely used audio format and it can be played on almost any device.

Adding Audio in a PowerPoint Presentation

PowerPoint is often used for personal, business, and educational purposes. People use this software program, which is part of the Microsoft Office suite, for multiple uses. For personal use, PowerPoint is used to create picture collages and videos. Businesses use it to present their company’s plan or marketing concepts. Teachers use it to present lessons, while students utilize it to create infographics or presentations for their assignments. It is a great software program to use because it allows you to build on it by adding text, images, video, audio, animation, and tables of data.

Inserting Audio

Microsoft PowerPoint offers the feature to insert audio and record narration. Including audio in your PowerPoint presentation is a great way to add a personalized touch, and provide your audience with more context for each of your slides. You can add audio, such as background music, narration, or sound bites to your PowerPoint. To record and hear any audio, your computer must be equipped with a sound card, microphone, and speakers.

To insert audio that has been recorded and converted into an acceptable audio format, follow the steps below.

Step 1 through 3

Recording Audio

Microsoft PowerPoint only records audio slide by slide. This means that you will not be able to record one audio and play it throughout the entire slide presentation if you have more than one slide. However, you can place several different audios on one slide and time them to play sequentially.

To record audio using PowerPoint’s recording audio tool, follow the steps below.

Editing Audio

After adding audio to your PowerPoint presentation, you might want to trim the beginning or the ending -- or both. Or you may want to start it at a particular point. The trimming tool in PowerPoint will allow you to edit your audio recording.

To edit the sound recording using PowerPoint’s editing audio tool, follow the steps below.
