Creating and Editing Images
Creating, designing, or editing an image can be considered a large task for anyone, especially beginners. The first step in starting this task is knowing what raster or vector editing program to use. Your computer or digital device will likely come with an image-editor or graphic software app. Some will be easier than others to use. Do your research to see what software image-editing editing programs are out there, familiarize yourself with them, and then choose which one is right for you.
Raster Image-Editing Software
The most popular form of image-editing software being used today is Photoshop. It is ideal for working with photos and editing and creating pixel based, raster graphics. However, there are similar programs that can perform the same tasks or have similar drawing and editing tools with little to no cost. Photoshop can:
- Touch up photos
- Create images for print and web
- Make user interface designs
- Create images for videos.
Other image-editing software programs that are similar to Photoshop include:
- PowerPoint
- Canva
- GIMP
- Net
- Photopea
- Pixlr
Vector Graphic Software
Vector graphic software programs are specially used to create logos, detailed illustrations, and print layouts. Some of the top vector graphics software today include:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Vectr
- Affinity Designer
- Sketch
These are only a few raster and vector image-editing programs that have been introduced in this module. There are numerous other programs that you can work with and add to this list. Remember, although they exist or may be free to use today, that may change tomorrow.
