The Importance of Graphics On A Webpage
Graphics play many important roles on a webpage. They send a message, influence the overall theme of the page, and are one of the user interface elements. For example, when a graphic is large, most likely there is a message in the picture. On the other hand, you may see a large, beautiful graphic on the page, but its use is only to enhance the theme. As far as user interface elements such as icons, you will see them typically used as navigation elements or web banners.
There are numerous potential sources of graphic components for a website. These include logos, photographs, clip art, banners, charts and graphs, buttons, icons, backgrounds, and many more. As you are learning about how to create an attractive, user-friendly, high-traffic website, you are learning that graphics are key to a successful outcome.
Applying a picture or graphic to a webpage can increase the visual appeal of the website and enhance website usability. What’s more, a picture can convey a message without words helping the webpage communicate better. Overall, the right, well-designed image will get the attention of a viewer and convey the message that is intended to be relayed. To get these results, a business needs to be able to arrange the elements of design in a good layout and apply the principles of design to the elements. The placement, size, and color of the text on a webpage are important, along with the information being presented. Doing the same with graphics will add greater value to the webpage and increase the credibility of the business. Using tailored visual content creates a sense of trust and respect.
When it comes to a website's graphics, pictures, and text, do they establish a brand or product identity? This is an important question for businesses to ask when creating a logo. Adding a business logo onto a website helps do this.
Logos tend to be designed with a graphic and text. They inform what the business is, what services or products are provided, and display professionalism through the design. A well-designed graphic is important to the logo and its overall message. Take a look at the logo presented below from Nature’s Photography by Ryan. What elements and principles of design do you see? Are you able to establish what the company’s brand or product is? By combining the graphics and text there is a stronger message, and as a viewer, you have a greater insight into what the company is about.
