RWG - The Role of Web Graphics (Overview)
The Role of Web Graphics Overview
Introduction
Have you ever been online and come across a webpage that only had text? It may not have been lengthy, but it was more than what you wanted to read. Did the website lack color and therefore you passed over viewing it? What was your interest level in continuing to read the page or even browse the website? Would a picture, a highlighted part of the text, or an animation have invoked a greater desire to continue viewing the webpage? What you have learned so far is that text and graphics go hand and hand. To get the visual appeal that can evoke a viewer’s interest, a website needs to be structured and have a good design. To meet this goal, design elements and principles need to be applied. The elements and principles of design are the building blocks used to create a work of art. Elements of design are the structure, the things that make up the design, and carry the work. Principles of design are what we do to the elements of design. They affect the content and the message. Overall, graphic design elements and principles are applied to elements of artwork and digital designs to make them visually appealing and to garner a viewer’s attention.
