For example, there was a time that you had to go to a movie store to rent movies to watch at home. This was a popular and inexpensive way for individuals and families to see a movie that had already come out in the movie theatre. To watch that movie, you had to have a DVD or CD player. Once online streaming services began to pop up, people no longer had to go to an actual store to rent a movie to watch. They could go to an online streaming service from their television or computer and rent it online. This new way of renting movies put the brick-and-mortar video companies out of business along with cutting sales for DVD or CD players needed to watch the movies. Yes, the effect of the Web caused businesses to fold or lose sales; however, it has allowed for more trendy and efficient businesses to develop that cater to the growing number of people who use the World Wide Web to simplify their lives.

Another innovation of the Web is DNA profiling. Today, special software and websites have been created by the government, medical professionals, and ancestry research companies to study a person’s DNA. For the government, this helps them connect people to crimes. Medical professionals use the information for medical studies and to diagnose health issues. Individuals can locate family through DNA.
