Take a Look at Embedded Systems

As we take a look into computer interaction with hardware and software, let’s start by developing some basic knowledge of embedded computing systems.

You may notice that each and every day the world is becoming more digital, connected, and even automated. How might this all be possible?

Two words. Embedded systems.

Embedded systems are impactful in the way you spend your leisure time, communicate, compute, or even do business. Embedded systems always function as part of a complete device, that's what's meant by the term embedded. The definition of an embedded system is “a computer system dedicated to performing a specific task or set of tasks as part of a larger system."

Embedded Computing Terms to Know Activity

Take a look at the Embedded Computing Terms to Know learning object below to learn more about some basic terms to continue to build that resource box of yours.

As you begin to understand the embedded computing terms, take a moment to understand how embedded computing systems are a part of your everyday life.

Think about embedded computing examples in a real context.

The global positioning systems (GPS) and satellite radios that you use to commute to different locations and listen to music while traveling on vacation with your family. As you travel down the road you may notice traffic is controlled by lights. When you finally arrive at your destination you may have to pay a meter to park too. All of which are examples of embedded systems  at work.
