(PC) Social Media and Digital Presence Lesson
Social Media and Digital Presence
Social media - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, etc.-and digital presence are related but not entirely the same thing. Certainly social media is a part of an individual or a company's digital presence, but digital presence is more than social media. Digital presence is an individual or organization's existence or presence on the Internet, most commonly anchored by a website, but can include any and all electronic forms of communication such as social networking sites or blogs. For our purposes we will look at both of these from the individual employee's point of view and the company's point of view.
The Company and Digital Presence
For a company, the beginning of their digital presence should be the company's website. To stay ahead of the competition, however, the company's digital presence must go beyond the website. View the interactivity below for some of the dos and don'ts of digital presence.
The Individual and Digital Presence
Whether you are a professional or just starting a career, social networks play a role in your professional life. Anytime you display personal information online a certain amount of privacy is lost. While employers may not by law ask you certain personal questions (age, marital status, religion, etc.), more than 80 percent of all employers will do an online search to find out more about you.
