  Productivity and Organization

Have you ever thought about how sticking to company rules can make work easier? Today, we'll explore how businesses are set up and learn some practical tips for managing our time better.

Organizational Chart

Organizational structure is how responsibilities are assigned to people or teams for different tasks.  It’s important to plan things out, maintain clear relationships among everyone, delegate authority appropriately, and have a solid framework in place for an organization to run smoothly.

  • The organizational chart in the image reflects the chain of command between the top and lowest positions.
  • The chart lists each position's title and uses lines to show who is in charge and who is accountable to whom.
  • The chain of command is the path a task takes in traveling from the organization’s president to lower employees.

Functional Type of Structure

Now, let's discuss the pros and cons of a functional organizational structure. This type of structure lets managers concentrate on specific roles, making them more effective, but it can also cause them to lose sight of the bigger picture. We will also discuss the concept of man-hours and how they are used to calculate labor costs and work hours for employees in different industries.

Real World Scenario

Let's Take a look at how we did that math.

Multiply the number of mowers needed by the number of hours it takes to produce each mower.
This number is the number of man-hours that will be needed to produce the mower quota.

900,000 mowers x 3 hours per mower = 2.700,000 hours.

Next, divide the total number of man-hours by the number of hours each worker can work in one year.
This number is the number of workers that will be needed to produce the yearly quota of mowers.

2,700,000/2000 = 1350 workers.
