Fire Safety Module Overview
In the last unit, we explored ways to prepare and plan for event hazards and disasters. In this unit, we are going to explore fire safety measures. Fires are scary and confusing. It is important to know what steps to take and to act fast.

- How can we prevent fires in our homes?
- How do you properly use a fire extinguisher?

- Accelerant - a substance used to aid the spread of fire
- Combustion - the process of burning something
- Detection - the action or process of identifying the presence of something concealed
- Detonation - the action of causing a bomb or explosive device to explode
- Extinguish - cause (a fire or light) to cease to burn or shine
- Incendiary - (of a device or attack) designed to cause fires
- Conflagration - an extensive fire that destroys a great deal of land or property
- Fuel - an element a fire needs to ignite; material such as coal, gas, or oil that is burned to produce heat or power
- Heat - an element a fire needs to ignite; the quality of being hot; high temperature
- Smolder - To burn with little smoke and no flame
- Utilities - A commodity or service, such as electricity, water, or public transportation, that is provided by a public utility.
- Asphyxiant - substance, such as a toxic gas, or an event, such as drowning, that creates a lack of oxygen in the body. .
- Corrode - destroy or damage (metal, stone, or other materials) slowly by chemical action.
- Explosive - able or likely to shatter violently or burst apart, as when a bomb explodes.
