Emergency Events Management Module Overview
In the last unit, you learned some priceless training that, when used correctly and performed at high quality, can save lives. In this unit, you will learn how to be prepared for and how to prevent hazards and disasters in various structures such as your homes, your schools, and your places of work.

Key Words
- Hazard - a danger or risk; a chance of being injured or harmed
- Emergency management plan - a course of action developed to mitigate the damage of potential events that could endanger and organization's ability to function
- Disaster supply kit - a survival kit is a package of basic tools and supplies prepared in advance as an aid to survival in an emergency
- Disaster - a sudden event, such as an accident or a natural catastrophe, that causes great damage or loss of life
- Natural disaster - is a major adverse event resulting from natural processes of the Earth; examples include floods, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, and other geologic processes.
- Man-made disasters - a disastrous event caused directly and principally by one or more identifiable deliberate or negligent human actions
- Safe room - a room in a house or other building that is invulnerable to attack or intrusion, and from which security operations can be directed
- Infrastructure - the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities (e.g., buildings, roads, and power supplies) needed for the operation of a society or enterprise
- Structure - the arrangement of and relations between the parts or elements of something complex
- Evacuate - remove from a place of danger to a safe place
- Shelter in place - is the use of a structure and its indoor atmosphere to temporarily separate individuals from a hazardous outdoor atmosphere
- Vulnerable - susceptible to physical or emotional attack or harm
- Mitigation - the action of reducing the severity, seriousness, or painfulness of something
- Contaminant - to make impure or unclean by contact or mixture
- Fortify - strengthen
- Good Samaritan laws - legal protection to people who give reasonable assistance to those who are injured, ill, in peril, or otherwise incapacitated
