(DRW) Documentation and Report Writing Module Wrap Up

Documentation and Report Writing Module Wrap Up

Review

So we learned the basics of doing a field interview. You learned more about active listening and how important that is in interviews. We learned the complexities of dynamic communication. Communication is verbal, but mostly non-verbal. We reviewed some of what body language tells us.

Next we learned how to write a basic police report. Narratives are the basic communication skill for reports across LPSCS and even in other industries. Incident reports include narratives, plus specific information from crimes and citizen reports. Other LPSCS fields use incident reports, but they are ubiquitous in the day of a police officer.

Finally, we reviewed samplings of paperwork used by LPSCS professionals. Each field uses paperwork specific to the needs of that field. Additionally, agencies modify and create paperwork for the needs of the specific agency. So learning basic report writing skills like narratives can prepare you for a career, you will still have training once you begin work in a particular agency.

Now that you have completed the initial assessments for this module, review the lesson material with the practice activities and extra resources.   Then, continue to the next page for your final assessment instructions.
