(OVW) Overview of LPSCS Module Wrap Up
Overview of LPSCS Module Wrap Up
Review
We started off by learning jurisdiction and venue. Jurisdiction is the geographical area that someone has power within. Venue has more to do with where the jury will come from and who will try the case.
Then we studied Core Operational Strategies (COS). We learned that each area of the LPSCS fields have a unique COS. We spent some time learning about how security has changed, especially since 9/11. We learned that security hired from the outside is called contract security. We learned that when a corporation has its own security it is called proprietary security. We also learned that security has grown for a number of reasons.
We next talked about how LPSCS is held accountable - and especially police. Since police make life or death decisions and can arrest people, they have a great deal of power - or discretion. We learned that departments use a variety of methods to review police actions. Supervisors, peers and internal affairs are all within the department. External review can come from citizens review, courts and the news media. All LPSCS are held accountable through losing licensing, but also prison for illegal behavior and/or lawsuits for negligence and malpractice.
Finally, we learned how the agencies all work together. We learned the public threats usually get the lead from police, while public emergencies usually are led by fire department officials. We also learned that protocols have established most of this already so that when quick thinking is needed, there is no time wasted on arguing about who is in charge.
