Applications and Resumes Lesson
No matter what career you choose, you will need to know how to apply for a job or complete a resume. You would think completing job applications or resumes is fairly straightforward, but there are many "tricks of the trade" that will help you get the job. The skills you learn here will help you get a job, but it will also be helpful in applying to colleges and for scholarships.
Applications
Job applications are ways employers can quickly screen applicants. Some jobs require you to be a certain age or have certain qualifications, so employers can eliminate unqualified applicants before they go further in the process.
When you go to pick up the job application, be aware that you might meet someone in management. So be sure to dress nice and use your best manners. Be prepared to answer some questions like "why do you want to work here." Sometimes managers even interview applicants on the spot. This is also true when you turn in the application.
Some companies now have online applications. In some stores you will be directed to a computer kiosk. It is important to have all the information you will need for the application with you when you go out requesting applications.
Until they meet you, your application is all they have to judge you by. It is important that your application is perfect. It is critical that you present yourself on the application in a positive way. But NEVER lie on an application. It is grounds for immediate firing if you are hired and they discover any deception on the application - even if it is years later.
