Day 21 Economics: Goods and Services are Everywhere
Goods and Services are Everywhere
Greetings!
You are probably very familiar with the goods and services in the area around where you live. You have a grocery store where you can buy food and drinks. You have a place where you can get your hair cut. You probably have parks where you can play on a baseball team, but there’s also a store where you can buy the equipment you need to play on that team. But did you know that most of the products that go into those goods and services–like the wood for a baseball bat, the plastic for the soda bottles, or the truck that delivers the lettuce to the store–came from other places around the world?
When there are relationships between cities, states, and countries for buying and selling such goods and services, this is global economics. Take a look at the digital poster below. It shows you just a small example of goods that come from around the world. There are way more than what you see on the poster. But it gives you an idea about how far some of the things you have in your everyday life have to travel before you can use them.
Then watch the video about soybean production in Brazil and how it impacts the local and global economies. Finally, read through the dialogue cards for more vocabulary.
