Day 6 Government: State Government: Legislative
State Government: Legislative
Welcome back!
We are going to study the second branch of the state government today: the Legislative Branch. It functions the same way the federal level of the legislature by making laws. In the state of Georgia, this branch is led by the Georgia General Assembly. It is set up just like Congress by having two chambers, which are called the Senate and the House of Representatives. It sounds familiar, right? There are 56 state Senators and 180 Representatives who work together to write bills that go to the Governor for approval or a possible veto.
Today, you will read the second section of the digital poster on the branches of state government. Then just for fun, there is a video that talks about some wacky laws that were passed in the state of Ohio. These would be laws written by their legislative branch. It’s likely some of these laws will make you giggle! Then you’ll finish today’s work with dialogue cards.
