Introduction

Hola!

We are back with the country of Spain to learn about our next explorer: Hernando de Soto. He was born into a very poor family near the year 1500, and like so many poor children of his time, he was captivated by the stories of explorers that had claimed land, found gold and gems, and traded spices, furs, and fish while in the New World. He wanted to have a life of such adventure and became an explorer himself.

Read through the dialogue cards for Day 5 to learn a little more about de Soto. Then continue your research to see where it is de Soto did a lot of his exploration with his crew.
