Day 7: All About Counting (forward, backward, and counting on)
Introduction
Yesterday we began working on counting backward from 20 to zero. Today we are going to add to this. We will begin to work on counting to 100 by tens and ones. To count to 100 by tens, you will start with 10, then 20, and 30, then, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, and finally 100. This is also called skip counting.
We can count to 100 by ones also. You start at one and go to 10. After ten the numbers become teens. When the number is 19, then the tens place changes and it becomes 20 then 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, and 29. Then the tens place changes again and the number becomes 30. This pattern continues until the number 99 and becomes 100.

In Your Math Journal: Today you will practice skip counting by 10s and writing the numeral to match. In your math journal, you will draw groups of ten circles. You will write the numeral ten for the first set of ten circles. Then, draw another group of ten circles. The numeral to match will be 20. The next group of ten circles will be 30. Continue this to make 10 groups of ten, which is 100. The numeral sets will go like this: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100.
