Introduction

Today, I want to talk with you more about when we use formal and informal language.

Formal language makes the speaker/writer seem more serious and knowledgeable, so people are more likely to take what they say as an expert opinion.

Informal language is very relaxed and is used in our day-to-day lives.

Visual
Informal Language - talking with friends, narrative dialogue, poetry, texting, social media

Formal - presentations, informational/opinion, letters to important people, speaking with authority figures

Stop and Jot

In Your Notebook:  Write two situations where you would use formal language.
