Introduction

We are continuing to review and learn different reference materials and when they are most appropriate to use.

Our last reference material to learn is the ENCYCLOPEDIA. An encyclopedia is a set of book on topics. It was the go-to resource for information before the internet existed!

Reference Materials
Dictionaries	A book of words in alphabetical order Gives definition, part of speech, and pronunciation
Glossaries	Domain-specific vocabulary words in alphabetical order In the back of the reference material Give definitions
Thesaurus	A book of synonyms and antonyms in alphabetical order Helps improve word choice while writing
Almanacs	A book of facts about a given year Written chronologically (in order by time) or by topic
Atlas	A book of maps (used to view a specific location or surface features)
Encyclopedia	A set of books with articles on topics Topics written in alphabetical order This was the “internet” before the internet existed!
